Hi Mark,
There are lots of considerations when selecting a fuse, obviously mostly related to fail-safe conditions. There are lots of reference materials available from fuse manufacturers, and I suggest starting there.
Having said that, fuses don't necessarily protect a circuit, but rather prevent a failed circuit from creating further damage to itself or other things/people. Obviously, the current rating needs to be higher than the input current of your circuit. A good rule of thumb is to have the current rating at least 1.5 times your input current to avoid nuisance tripping. Other than current rating, you also need to consider other fuse characteristics including current-time curve ratings and voltage ratings.

Out of curiosity, what fuse rating was installed for the Test Report PMP21549 document?

Hi Mark,
I can't say for sure, because the schematic and BOM have the fuse holder listed rather than an actual part number for the fuse. However, it was likely the 37216300411 from Little Fuse, because it uses that style fuse holder and has an appropriate rating.
