PMP22764: Transformer T1 and Controller Questions

Part Number: PMP22764
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5033, LM51551

The PMP22764 uses a Transformer from Coilcraft - ZB1368-AL according to the BOM - but I can't find a Datasheet for this.
What is the Transformer's Height...?

Also, I am supporting a design using the LM5033 and LM5100 for a Push-Pull PWM version of 24V -> 56V for PoE...what would be the pros/cons of such a solution vs the single-chip LM51551 use-case as shown in the PMP22764 reference design...?

  • Hi Daren,

Regarding the transformer, let me request it to the engineer who developed this reference design.

Topology: typically we select a Flyback converter when the input voltage range is pretty wide and the power less than 100W. Forward converter suffer from wide Vin, because the peak output transformer voltage will be connected to the input range. In this case, the input range is restricted so both topologies make sense. I would select a push-pull for power > 100W because of the two main FETs compared to one. But I believe here for 70W the Flyback is the best!

    Cheers,

    Roberto
