TIDA-00436: Designing a BLDC controller to run a 24V DC motor

Part Number: TIDA-00436

I am designing a BLDC controller using TIDA-00436 as reference. I will be using the same set of cells as in the design and the total output voltage will be 42V when the cells are fully charged.

But instead of the 36V motor used, I will be using a 24V motor. I can understand that the current can be controller using the MOSFET bridge but, how can the voltage be stepped down? Won't the 36V from the battery pack damage my motor?
