TIDA-00803: Do you recommend using same switching frequencies for all DCDC converter without any synchronization among them?

Part Number: TIDA-00803
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS628502-Q1

Hi team,

Do you recommend using same switching frequencies for multiple DCDC converters without any synchronization or phase shifted control among them?

I would like to multiple 2.0~2.4MHz adjustable fsw DCDC converters (for ex.LM$43620-Q1 and  5 pieces of TPS628502-Q1) without synchronization. No synchronization or no phase shifted DCDC converters may overlap these switching transition. I am worried that of these noise level on their switching frequency is overlapped leading high peak noise. Do you recommend uisng same fsw or different fsw for decreasing peak noise on their fsw? Or do you recommend to use same one and make filter for reducing specific frequency?

Regards,
Ochi

  • Hi Ochi,

It's better to sync the multiple DC/DC converters to one freq if the circuit has resource to do this. this will make the noise peak freq predictable and can be reduced by proper filter design.  phase shift has more advantage to reduce the input/output ripple current for lower EMI.
