TIDA-050045: DNP part explanation

Part Number: TIDA-050045
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23730EVM-093, TPS23730

Is there any additional data on the usage of the DNP parts that are part of the TIDA-050045 reference design?  Would like an explanation of when the DNP parts should be considered to be used/populated in the design.  Also should D18 also be listed as a DNP?

  • Hello,

    The TIDA-050045 board uses the same layout as the TPS23730EVM-093. The difference between the two is a BOM change.

    Yes D18 can be DNP.

    Different parts have different rules for why they would be DNP or not:

    - D9 & D12 are different FET footprints in case a customer wanted to evaluate a different type of FET

    - C46 provides filtering on CS if needed

    - D24 provides additional surge protection if needed

    - R56, R57, & R58 represent pull up resistors if sending the TPH, TPL and BT signals to an MCU vs the LED indicators we have

    - Q5, R29, R32, D18 and C26 are a gate drive clamp circuit needed in the 12v version TPS23730EVM-093. ACF's need better gate driver circuits at higher output voltages

    - D19, C3 & R35 are a clamp circuit for Q8. Also usually required for higher output voltages

    - D21 & D11 --- these are additional clamps we placed on the board for protection. The TPS23730 has soft-stop, and in order to test it we had to disable soft-stop, which required additional FET protection.

    - C30 is an additional large output capacitor, also only used for EVM development testing. But if you wanted to populate it for increased capacitance we left the board space.

    - C18 is a common mode cap for EMI and surge

    - L5 & L2 are common mode chokes for EMI filtering

    - D7, D8, D9 & D10 help for a rectifier bridge if you wanted to evaluate a full diode bridge instead of the hybrid we have with the FETs and diodes.

  • Thanks Michael.  Your explanation was just what I was looking to receive.  Just for clarity, there were a couple of typo's that I thought I would clear up.

    • D9 & D12 are different FET footprints -> Q9 & Q12 are different FET footprints
    • D19, C3 & R35 are a clamp circuit for Q8 -> D19, C37 & R35 are a clamp circuit for Q8

    Thanks!
