TIDA-080004: how much power consumption?

The 7.1W power was calculated on the 12V battery side. Yes the power calculation is based on the entire system running with the bulk of the power consumption coming from driving the LEDs.

Please also take note of the following specifications found in the Electronic and LED Driver Reference Design for AR HUD guide found on the TIDA-080004 page.

Another consideration is the type of LEDs used. For example there is a subsection in the guide that discusses power and brightness between two different LEDs.

Hi Alex,

As you can see in the guide, there are two "12V" power inputs. From my understanding, P12V is direct from battery and used for power chips. P12V_HC_6 is used for power LED and should be regulated before sending in. So the 7.1W is the sum of these two inputs, right? 

As for the P12V_HC_6 separately, how much current is needed? I am looking for buck-boost converting battery to 12V. Thanks.

Unfortunately I do not have a system in the lab with the correct LEDs to measure the current as the reference design is using Osram CSL LEDs.

All of our current systems in the lab and what we sell currently use Osram Q8WP LEDs. If you are intending to design with the Osram Q8WP LEDS, the power may be higher.

For the reference design, a bulk of that 7.1 W of power will be coming from driving the LEDs with the P12V_HC_6 so you could just assume since power supply is 12V and power is 7.1 W you will see current of ~0.59 A on the power supply end. 

I reached out to our system engineer who had more experience with this older system but he has not gotten back to me and I just messaged him again just now but I am not sure if he will get back to me by the end of today. Sorry for the inconvenience.

From what you say above, do you mean the actual power consumption is highly related with the LED used? So in customer's system, they need to evaluate their LEDs spec, like current and numbers, right? Thanks.

Yes whatever LED being picked can vary the power and current draw of the system.

Our customer actually use  Q8WP. Could you please advise the max current need for the LED 12V supply? If you have some test result, that would be the best. They need this to choose proper buck-boost solution. Thanks.
