TIDA-010057: Request for support with MED1426

Hope you are well!

My customer, Zimmer Biomet, ran into a strange ramp pattern using our AFE5832LP and the TX7332 in conjunction with TIDA-010057. Please see their details below and let me know if any more information is needed. 

Some notes from our investigation:

-observed that output of TX was only going between HVP and 0V. Found that L43 was missing (ferrite bead; connection for HVM from TIDA) – reconnecting HVM led to TIDA overheating and triggering USB port current over-loads.

-disconnecting HVP and HVM, was able to reproduce problematic ramping with TI’s FPGA load and SW, TIDA still overheating.

-disconnecting all the analog supplies to Tx and Rx chips resolved overheating. Keeping 1.2V_DVDD and 1.8V_DVDD connected allowed the Rx chip appears to be able to communicate with the FPGA. The TIDA did not experience excessive heat up, but test patterns could no longer be generated.

-investigation with thermal camera found that Tx chip connected to Rx B was getting hotter than the rest

    Initial USB overcurrent could be due to high current demand at the startup. Also, it might be possible that some component might be short and taking a lot of current. To fix it, could you try:

    1. Provide 5V to the TIDA-010057 board without connecting Swaroop board. Probe the current and see how much current is being drawn. You could use thermal camera as well to find if there is any device damaged which may be getting overheated.

    2. Check the HV Supply if it is working. It may be possible that the output capacitors may be damaged. You could check for a short there.

    Also, instead of disconnecting HVP and HVM, just disconnect the HV supply input 5V through the 0 ohm resistor. Keep rest of the circuit and check if you are able to bring up the Swaroop board.

    Btw, do you suspect one of the TX chip to be faulty?
