Why there is only bipolar capacitor in TI-TINA? How do I use an electrolytic capacitor?

  • Kai,

The capacitor in TINA-TI is an ideal capacitor. If you need an electrolytic capacitor, you will need to know how that capacitor deviates from an ideal capacitor and add the additional components (ESR, ESL) to model it properly. All capacitors in SPICE simulators are ideal and must be modified to model "real" components.

  • Kai,

Thanks for the inquiry. I am a model designer in Analog eLab.

I will look into possible TINA models for electrolytic capacitores and should have some additional information by the end of the day.

    Regards,

    John

  • how to add ESR ESL? i use TINA now but i dont know how to add ESR thanks
  • Hello Frank,

As Britt mentioned above, "The capacitor in TINA-TI is an ideal capacitor." There are couple of ways you can add ESR and ESL to the capacitor. The simplest would be to add physical components in series with the capacitor and name them and put appropriate values.

Alternatively you can write your own macro-model of the capacitor and use it in TINA, similar to the other components.

Please let me know if you any other help.

    Thanks!!

  • Hi Mahavir Jain

    thanks

    still some question

1 I download TINA-TI Spice Model what different between 3 type file (.lib.tld .tsm )

    how to inport to TINA?

    2. if i export .tsc   from webench should I import model  before sim?

or I can run sim without import ic model?

    3. for the MLCC I can add ESR ESL by add ideal R and L

but how to add  parameter below ,(info from murata website)

  • Hello Frank,

    1. The three files are required for below purposes:

    1. TPS53355_TRANS.LIB: You can import it as PSPICE netlist in TINA-TI and create a Macro of your own.

    2. TPS53355_TRANS.TLD: It is needed  to add the component to "Texas Instruments" library in TINA-TI. You mainly use it when you are going to use same component multiple times in different designs.

    3. TPS53355_TRANS.TSM: It is simplest way of inserting a component in your schematic. In TINA-TI go to Insert >> Macro option and from there your can point it to the *.TSM file and insert it in your schematic. It is preferable to keep the macro in same folder as your schematic location.

    2. If you export a schematic from WEBENCH, you don't need to do anything else. Simply open it in TINA-TI and you can run the analysis on the schematic or modify the *.TSC file as per your design needs.

    3. It will be quite difficult to model these variations in a Capacitor model and will increase the model complexity and hence simulation time. A simpler way would be to modify the capacitor value for your application as per test conditions. e.g. output capacitor value can be chosen as 110nF instead of 300nF (approximately based on DC Bias curve), if your output is at 4V and so on.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any other information.

    Thanks!!
