TIDA-010210: what are the components that determine the manageable power?

Part Number: TIDA-010210
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01606

Hi Team,

Good day. Thank you for posting your inquiry on behalf of the customer.

"On ti.com is there an example of an implemented scheme that is more powerful than TIDA-010210 or TIDA-010210?
If not, starting from these schemes, which components should you replace in order to manage more power? and specifically, what are the components that determine the manageable power?

than TIDA-01606 or TIDA-010210

Thank you for extending your help. Your support is much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Marvin

  • Hi Marvin,

I can provide you here an initial list of hardware components that you need to change based on your power rating:

    Power hardware

    • PFC inductors with higher current saturation
    • Capacitor in the DC link in order to handle more RMS current.
    • MOSFET in general. With GaN by paralleling we can move up to 22 kW. But if you desire to move up to higher power than it is recommended to move with SiC components. You can leverage out the drivers and power supplies from TIDA-01606.
    • Relays
    • Heatsinks

    Sensing

    • Change the shunt resistance value to the appropriate value. Currently you have 2 mOhm for a 16 Arms application. If you would like to move to 32 Arms for example than you need just to change the shunt resistance value to 1 mOhm.

    Code:

    • Change some constants implemented in the code (user settings file). Loops change performances when you change the passive components. The existing code it is robust enough to take care of these changes.

I hope that I have answered fully your question

    Best Regards

  • Hi Riccardo,

Thank you for the very detailed response. I got feedback from the customer. Please see below.

"All very clear, the question that remains for me is how are SiC mosfets chosen? I don't think choosing more powerful Sic is the best solution, could you recommend some theoretical article, if there is on ti.com"

    Appreciate your help to advise.

    Kind regards,

    Marvin

  • Hi Marvin,

we do not have currently theoretical paper implemented in TI.com but for sure we are going to implement them in the future.

On the other hand, we are going to upload the system simulation of TIDA-010210 in ti.com as soon as possible. This simulation will allow the customer to understand the switching and the conduction losses of the system, thus allowing him to chose the best device for their applications.

    Thanks for your attention

    Best Regards

    Riccardo
