TIDA-010208: low power CAN Transceiver, low current, Vbat

Part Number: TIDA-010208
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76952, TCAN1043H-Q1, TCAN1042H-Q1

Hi Teams,

i want to add can transceiver (automotive) in BMS (TIDA-010208) , powred with Vbat or internal  LDO BQ76952, without using DC-DC converter (to reduce BOM & Size)

so do you have any recommandation for can transceiver referenece functionning in these conditions :

(3.3v/5v - max 45mA (The BQ76952`s maximum REG1 and REG2 output is 45mA)) or (Vbat: ...to 70V for example) ?

Best Regards,

Ahmed.

  • Ahmed,

Any CAN transceiver will consume 40-50mA when the device is transmitting a dominant signal to the CAN bus, which is supplied by VCC. So an LDO with max 45mA current capability wouldn't work. Our TCAN1162 is powered solely off of VBAT though and self-generates the 5V rail for the CAN bus. This device also needs a VIO supply for logic-level thresholds, but this could be powered by the LDO you mentioned. Does this make sense?

  • Hi Eric Hackett,

    thanks for your reply,

The Max Supply voltage (recomanded) for TCAN1162 is 28V (Max Ratings42V), this voltage does not match my requirements, since my battery voltage required to be 42V (for 10s) , 54.6V(for 13s) or 67.2V(for 16s).

So do you have any idea about another reference for the CAN that can be used in the conditions I have mentioned above (the supported voltage)?

As for the VIO supply (Low Current) I do not have any problem with it because I have a regulator Reg1 which will provide 3.3V

    thanks in advance,

    Best regards,

    Ahmed.

  • Ahmed,

The only CAN devices in our portfolio that are rated this high are TCAN1042H-Q1 and TCAN1043H-Q1. I would recommend the TCAN1043H-Q1 in this case to give a bit more system configurability.
