PMP9202: Solution 4 of AC to DC Power Supply

Part Number: PMP9202

Hi,

I am designing AC to DC SMPS in automation Field. My Power Supply is requirement in below details-

  1. Input Voltage - (85 to 264) VAC
  2. Output Voltage- 5VDC/1A or 5VDC/2A (Both are given)
  3. Voltage Accuracy- 1% to 2%
  4. Power -5W/10W
  5. Line and Load Regulation- 2%
  6. Ripple- 50 to 150mV
  7. Efficiency-80 to 90%
  8. Isolation- 4000VAC (Input to Output)
  9. Protection- Over Current, Short Circuit, Over voltage and Temperature Protection.

I have searched some solution. I have some query as per below Reference Design-

Reference Design Number- PMP9202 (85-265) VAC

  1. Can This Power Supply working input  Voltage (75 to 275)VAC

Lower Voltage -75VAC and Upper Voltage-275 with 5V/1A and 5V/2A

  1. I want to set output Voltage 5.1 or 5.2VDC. Which resistance value is change in Circuit?
  2. I want to set input under voltage and input over voltage limit. How will be set in circuit.
  3. If Load variation(200mA,500mA,1A,2A) output voltage is constant
  4. Line variation-? Load variation-?
  5. I seen part number of transformer RLTI-1067 in BOM but there is no stock. Please suggest me any alternate part number of transformer.
  6. Why use SBR10U45SP5 (Schottky Diodes) in output ground terminal. If Schottky Diodes is used Output positive terminal. What is effect?
  7. What is size of PCB and BOM Cost.
  • I am waiting your reply

  • Hi Navi,

Sorry for the delayed response.  Please see my answers to your questions below:

    1. While not designed for 75VAC to 275VAC, this design will still operate across that range.

    2. The output voltage can be adjusted by changing the value of R16. A smaller value for R16 will result in a higher output voltage. Please refer to the UCC28710 datasheet for the equation.

    3. The input under-voltage can be set by adjusting the value of R15. Please refer to the UCC28710 datasheet for the equation. Also, beware that if you change the value of R15, R16 will need to be adjusted to provide the desired output voltage. The UCC28710 does not provide an input over-voltage function.

    4. The output voltage is fairly constant versus load current, but there will be some small variations. Please see the data tables in section 3 of the PMP9202 test report.

    5. The output voltage will be mostly independent of line variation. Please see my answer to question #4 for load variation.

    6. Like most isolated AC/DC power supplies, this design uses a custom transformer. Unfortunately there is not an alternate part.

    7. The output diode is connected to GND in this design to help reduce the temperature rise on the part. Essentially, the GND plane of the PCB is used as a heat sink.  This might not be completely necessary. It is OK to move the diode to between pin A of the transformer and C4/C6. In fact, moving the diode to the high side of the secondary winding will help reduce EMI.

    8. The PCB is 25mm by 50mm. The BOM cost is not something we can provide, since it is dependent on volume and sourcing.  The BOM is available here at TI.com, so you can research pricing at the volume of your project.

    thanks,
    Brian
