TIDA-010231: TIDA-010231 op-amp design considerations

Part Number: TIDA-010231

About the reference design TI-TIDA010231 schematic, there are several questions I would like to ask the following

1, D1 and R3 role is assumed to protect the op-amp, please help to explain why choose this circuit, and what is the function and advantage?

2, differential input signal processing is currently using op-amp for signal amplification, another solution is, add a voltage follower after differential op-amp to suppress the common mode interference, do you think second one is better?

3, C1, C2 filter capacitor position between the differential input and the negative pole and ground,  why there is no such capacitor between positive pole and ground? What are the advantages of this capacitor implementation ?

Thanks!

  • Hi Darren,

    1. D1 and R3 limit the differential voltage before the amplifier circuit. There is no specific reason why we selected this circuit. This can be implemented in a different way as well.

    2. In our test we did not face problems regarding common mode. I think it is not necessary to add a differential amplifier for this application.

    3. C2 is placed as a bypass capacitor for the 2.5V reference, since this 2.5V signal is routed over a longer trace.

    Best regards,

    Andreas
