TIDA-01487: TIDA-01487

Part Number: TIDA-01487

Hi System Application team:

My customer will design CAN FD repeater to enhance CAN driving strength and compensate signals .

We found there have TIDA-01487 system reference design can realized the CAN FD repeater.

Could you please review the TIDA-01487 can meet for 12 meters long CAN length compensation?

if Yes, May I know could I applied one  TIDA-01487 EVMs for test ?

Thank you

  • Hi Roy,

At which speed do you want to operate the CAN bus over 12 meters? Typically CAN specifies that it works with 1Mbps over a 40m. As a rule of thumb is that 1m of cable adds 5ns, which we need then to consider when calculating the delay. It it then 6m on ECU1 and 6m on ECU2?

Regarding your request on board, we do not have anymore a test board with out team. So we cannot provide you with a board.

    Regards,

     Thomas

  • Hi Roy,

I will close this e2e entry for now. In case you need additional information, please reopen the topic.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Thomas:

Sorry for I have one more question.

Base on your comment -> CAN specifies that it works with 1Mbps over a 40m.  , that means if customer use 2Mbps also should be no problems for 12m Cable without repeater , am I correct?

    thank you

    Roy

  • Hi Roy,

I did not find a good table via Internet search to confirm the maximum cable length supported by CAN-FD. Most of the tables stop at 1Mbps standard CAN.

Best is to confirm the maximum length of a specific CAN transceiver with the TI CAN product line. Do you know which TI CAN transceiver is used? If yes, please create a new e2e entry for the PL to response.

    Thanks and regards,

     Thomas
