TI Connect Turns off TI-84 and Resets RAM

I have a new TI-84 plus graphing calculator (not sure I'm in the right forum as there does not seem to be a category that fits), When I try to use TI Connect, any icon I select causes the calculator to shut off. I can only get it to turn on by removing the battery and putting it back in. However when I do turn it back on the RAM is erased and I lose all my programming. I can't even back it up. Please help.
