LP-XDS110: LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 - EnergyTrace on Linux

Part Number: LP-XDS110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1, ENERGYTRACE

Hi.

My system: Ubuntu 22.04 kernel 6.5 / CCS 11.2 or 12.7 / SDK 6.10.0.29 / LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1

Just running ProjectZero. I've trying to use the EnergyTrace but it does't work on Linux. It starts measuring for some seconds and hangs, sometimes doesn't start. I've tried the target with JTAG, cJTAG 2 and 4 wires. It seems with JTAG is a little better.

The following messages used to appear:

  • Cortex_M4_0: JTAG Communication Error: (Error -261 @ 0x0) Invalid response was received from the XDS110. (Emulation package 9.7.0.00213)
  • IcePick_C: Error: (Error -261 @ 0xFFFFFEFB) Invalid response was received from the XDS110. (Emulation package 9.7.0.00213)

But I tested the same project on a VirtualBox Windows 10 machine, running on the same computer and Linux, CCS11.2 and SDK 6.10.0.29, and the EnergyTrace runs flawless w/o any error.

Any tip?

Thanks

Marco

  • Hello Marco,

I believe I can reproduce the issue.

    However:

But I tested the same project on a VirtualBox Windows 10 machine, running on the same computer and Linux, CCS11.2 and SDK 6.10.0.29, and the EnergyTrace runs flawless w/o any error.

I can also see the issue on CCS 11.2.0 when I load the same executable that I used with 12.7.0. Can you try the same and see if that is the case for you?

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi Ki, thanks for answering.

Our project is using CCS 11.2 and SDK 6.10 and now I was just trying to perform some current measurements due to some new requirements.

I tried updating to CCS 12.7 and the error continued and I also started a new workspace with just ProjectZero and LaunchPad in CCS 11.2 and 12.7. Every time I tried EnergySaver the same error happened.

Another thing I noticed is that the Current tab causes CCS to close unexpectedly when zooming or returning to the first tab.

And I finally went to a Windows 10 VM for testing and it worked perfectly.

    Regards,

    Marco

  • I filed a bug for this. Tracking link: https://sir.ext.ti.com/jira/browse/EXT_EP-11740

I saw the same error occasionally on Windows... though I'm not sure it is directly related. Definitely is happens all the time on Linux.

  • I saw the same error occasionally on Windows...

It just happened again. If I wait long enough (several minutes) while on Linux it happens almost immediately.

  • Thanks a lot for your support.

    Regards,

    Marco
