Hello Jochen,
We are releasing an updated high frequency version of the LCR reference design soon which will cover more details on how phase is calculated. You are correct, the value of Zx is calculated by measuring Vin, Vout, as well as knowing and measuring the value of Rf via calibration. The phase is calculated via the time delay between Vin and Vout.
