PMP23338: 12V current requirements

Part Number: PMP23338
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP20306

Tool/software:

I am working on a design similar to the PFC design in PMP23338. I have done my 12V current calculations and I thought I should be close to the 12V power used by the PMP23338.

The PMP23338 uses two 12V rails generated by the PMP20306 bias supply design. When I check the test report for the PMP20306, it shows each 12V rail as being able to supply only 0.06A.

From my calculations, I don't think that is enough power for the PMP23338. Is it possible there was a different version of the PMP20306 used?

Thanks for any help on this.

  • George,

PMP20306 has a current sensing resistor of 10ohm, which means the maximum current on the current sense resistor should be below 100mA as the current sense voltage threshold is 1V. 100mA on the current sense resistor translates to ~1.2W total power based on PMP20306 design parameters.

As PMP20306 test report is done by itself (not with PMP23338). The load condition on PMP23338 is definitely different, but for sure the total bias supply consumption should be less than 1.2W.
