Hi!

I have a usb pd and charging board based on the TIDA-050047 reference design. I have a host application where i need to query battery stats from the charger.

If I connect the BQ25792's i2c directly to the host i2c, I can query the charger information. However, in this case, the TPS25750 isnt able to communicate with the BQ25792.

If I connect the BQ's i2c to the TPS i2c, the TPS is able to communicate with the charger but I am only able to query the registers of the TPS in such a case.

Any recommendations on how to proceed?

The host requires the battery information in order to turn on/off different peripherals and battery status advertisement.

Also, please note you must be connected to the I2C master interface.

Hi Deepak!

Thank you for the reply. This document is new to me. However, my question remains unresolved.

I understand the TPS can act as an i2c host for the BQ charger as the document states. but my question remains. How can I get battery information in such a case directly from the BQ?

I have two options on my pcb, both the integrated and non-integrated options from the document.

currently I am using non-integrated option.

If I switch to the integrated option, are my i2c reads (intended for BQ charger) supposed to be directed to the i2c address of the TPS and it will automatically get the necessary data from the BQ charger and reply?

Hassan,

The PDdevice can control BQ charger over I2Cm lines. Initialization, change in voltage and current settings are done over I2Cm lines.

If the an external controller need to know some data from BQcharger, the external controller can use the I2Cw and I2Cr 4CC commands.
