TPS62097: Soft-Start Issue

Part Number: TPS62097

Tool/software:

Hello TI team,

I am connecting 300uF capacitors to the SS/TR pin to get roughly 30 seconds of voltage ramp-up time. However, when I turn the device off, the capacitors take very long time to discharge and turning the device back on again, I don't get the 30 seconds of voltage ramp-up time. Is there a safe design practice to make the capacitors discharge within 40 seconds without damaging the step-down converter?

  • Hi Peter,

The SS pin of TPS62097 wouldn't be able to discharge the high current from 300uF. You would have to add an external FET to discharge the 300uF cap to GND. The EN signal to TPS62097 can be used to turn on and off this FET. You may have to check if you also need any series resistance with the FET in case the discharge current from the cap is more than the current rating of the FET.

    Best regards,

    Varun
