PMP8740: DC/DC Topology for 400V Input and 30-80V Output

Part Number: PMP8740
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28950, UCC27714, UCC28070, UCC28180

Tool/software:

Hi TI Experts,

Please suggest a DC-DC topology for a 1.2kW power supply that intakes a PFC output of 400V.

There are a few requirements for the design as listed below:

1. Maximum current 15A.
2. Voltage between 30V to 80V, which can be programmed by MCU.
3. Is there any preferred PFC topology for the above mentioned requirements.

Would like your valuable insights on the same.

Thanks & Regards

Mohammed Ibrahim

  • Hello Mohammed,

As DC/DC stage I suggest to select phase shifted full bridge, like in the PMP8740, even though this design is a bit too much power.

If 1.2kW is just peak and the average power is lower, you can have a look also to the lower power version, see UCC28950 EVM and UCC27714 EVM (both 600W nominal).

Of course a redesign is necessary but on UCC28950 product page we have a nice and powerful excel sheet that calculates all parameters.

For the PFC stage, I suggest to go with UCC28180 (used in PMP8740, as 2KW nominal for restricted high-line or 1.2KW for universal mains range) or UCC28070 (interleaved dual phase) in case a slim and low profile solution is preferred.

    Regards,

    Roberto
