TIDA-01606: DC link Capacitors design

Part Number: TIDA-01606

Tool/software:

I am trying to make a design of T-type inverter with the help of reference design provided in tidue53i. I am designing for a different power rating. I am not able to find the design guidelines for the DC link capacitor design. Can you please help me in making a proper design of the DC link capacitors?

  • Hi Harish,

What power level are you trying to design for?

There are two approaches that you can go about to help with the design the DC link cap.

    1. analytical

    2. simulation

for our design, we used PLECs model to estimate the LF and HF currents going to our DC link cap.  We also look at the power ripple to determine the total capacitance we need on the DC link.  the electrolytic caps support LF currents and the film caps support HF currents.  There is a link to the PLECs model on the tida-01606 webpage.

We haven't gone down the analytic path but maybe you could do some research on that.

Note: Wolfspeed has a 25kW T type reference design that you might want to check out.
