CODECOMPOSER: I can't write a program to the CC2340R5 I received using CCS Thiea 1.5.0

Part Number: CODECOMPOSER
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2340R5, UNIFLASH

Tool/software:

Hello.

As the title says, I am unable to write to the "freshly arrived" CC2340R5 using CCS Theia 1.5.0.
The error message displayed is "Error -1274" as shown in the attached image.

It is known that it is possible to write a program using CCS Thiea to a CC2340R5 that has already been programmed once.

As a temporary measure, I am using UniFlash 8.8.0 to write to the CC2340R5 that has just arrived.

  • Hello Kei,

I will see if I can replicate your issue, but basically you have a new CC2340R5 that is not detected correctly on Theia, despite it working normally with CCS/UniFlash.

    Thanks,
    Alex f

  • Hello.

    Please confirm the reoccurrence.
By the way, is it possible to address this issue?

    thank you.

  • Hello Kei,

I downloaded the new CCS Theia (I was using the older 1.0 version) and I did notice that between the two I could not debug/build on the new version.

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hello Alex,

Sorry, I didn't quite understand the intent of your report.
Could you please tell me more about that?

    Thank you

  • Hello Kei,

After playing a bit more around with Theia 1.5, it seems like my older workspace (1.0) projects are not recognized by 1.5 causing them to not be able to be built or debugged. I needed to re-import a new project into Theia 1.5 to make to functions work, not sure if this is intended or not atm.

Can you pull up your "flash settings" under debug for your project?

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hello Alex,

Let me sort out the issues.
I have been able to build Thiea 1.5.0 without any problems.
    I am using simplelink_lowpower_f3_sdk_8_10_01_02.

Furthermore, there is a problem in that we cannot write programs to the CC2340R5 that arrived. What is "Error -1274"?

    Thank you,

  • Hello Kei,

What software version is your XDS110? I did notice that when attempting to download on CCS Theia 1.5 I was asked to update XDS to version 3.x.x.x.31. The error sounds related to the XDS110 to CC2340R5 connection.

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hello Alex,

Does the software version of the XDS110 have anything to do with this issue?
Please let me know how to check so I can check.

Also, are you still unable to reproduce this in Alex's environment?

    Thank you very much.

  • According to the pop-up that appears when you write, the version appears to be "3.0.0.32".

  • Hello Kei,

The version of your XDS110 does not seem to be an issue!

I will double check CCS Theia with a brand new board next.

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hello Kei,

While I was not able to acquire a brand new board I was able to replicate the bug:

By firsts using UniFlash and manually erasing the LaunchPad (such that there is no valid CCFG) CCS Theia produces a connection error when attempting to debug the project:

As you have noted the only way to rectify the issue is to have a valid CCFG, by flashing another project.

This was an issue previously faced in CCS Eclipse, but was addressed, in this case the bug resurfaced on CCS Theia and will likely be addressed in a later release.

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hello Alex,

Does this mean that users of CCS Theia will have to wait for a future release?
If this is an issue that has existed in CCS Eclipse before, will it be resolved soon?

    Thank you very much.

  • Hello Kei,

Does this mean that users of CCS Theia will have to wait for a future release?

    -That is correct.

If this is an issue that has existed in CCS Eclipse before, will it be resolved soon?

-Looking at the next release there does seem to be one fix related to the XDS110 during initialization, however I am unsure if this is the issue we are seeing here. Its likely that the fix will come after the next CCS Theia release.

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hello Alex,

Does the next release refer to CCS Theia v1.5.1?
The same problem of being unable to write occurred with v1.5.1 as well. I am sad.

When will the fix be released?

    Thank you.

  • Hello Kai,

I can reach out to the CCS Theia team to see if this is on the timeline to get addressed.

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hello Alex,

    Thank you for your support.
    Please confirm.

  • Hello Kai,

Currently awaiting on a response from the internal team, I also made ticket internally which should allow the team to address this bug.

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hello Kai,

Looks like we may take this offline via an email thread with the FAE, the fix should be applied IDE side.

The internal team has commented on my ticket:

"but I know that in some cases you cannot connect to the main core until a program load is completed (in fact, I believe the flash loader will connect the core after the program load is complete). I recall being told that a new device from the factory was such a case."

    Thanks,
    Alex F

  • Hello Alex,

    It coincides with my understanding.
When this happens I use UniFlash to flash the program. Then you'll be able to write.

I would like to discuss this CCS Theia issue with the FAE in more detail. What should I do?

    Thank you very much.

  • Hello Kei,

When this happens I use UniFlash to flash the program. Then you'll be able to write.

-Correct, once we program the devcie with a image with good CRCs Theia will be able to reconize/debug the device.

I would like to discuss this CCS Theia issue with the FAE in more detail. What should I do?

-I will reach out and answer the FAE's questions, and the FAE should let you know my response to the questions, if you do not get a response re-ping this thread and let me know, thanks.

    Thank you,
    Alex F
