PSPICE-FOR-TI: License Not Found

Part Number: PSPICE-FOR-TI

Tool/software:

Hello TI Support,

I am reaching out to try to resolve an error I am getting with a PSpice for TI install.

Anytime I would start PSpice, I would get an error message that the License could not be found. After checking in my files, it was in fact NOT located in the install files.

Is there any way you could help me resolve this?

Luis

  • Hi Luis,

We are aware of this problem and it is impacting anyone trying to install PSpice for TI.

I'll notify you when the problem has been fixed.

    David

  • Thank you David, looking forward to the resolution.

  • Cadence has asked for some more information to help debug.

If you can, please do the following:

You'll need to setup an environment variable.

    CDS_LIC_QA_TesT environment variable
The CDS_LIC_QA_TesT environment variable is a testability code that is set on the client system running the Cadence tools. The variable is set for troubleshooting Licensing issues. CDS_LIC_QA_TesT must be set before the invocation of the Cadence tool. The value of this variable is any writable area on your system.
    Windows:
Access the Windows button, search for edit environment variables for your account.
    New > CDS_LIC_QA_TesT = c:\cadence\qalog.txt
After setting this variable, invoke the tool. If you get a Licensing error, send the qalog.txt file to Customer Support. The qalog.txt file can grow quite large over time. Hence, it is best to unset the variable when your problem is solved.
Note: Do not set this variable in c:\ drive as you may not have write permission there and the file will not get created. Please set it either in c:\cadence or in a different drive like d:\ .

After that's setup, then per Cadence,

uninstall the tool and re-run the installer (with CDS_LIC_QA_TesT variable in place).

    Post the file here. Insert->Image/video/file

Hopefully that file will show why the license file isn't downloading.

  • Hi David,

I've performed the steps relating to the environment variable set up, same value and all. I have invoked PSpice for TI, and received the following error message:

However I am not able to find the qalog.txt file to send over.

  • Thanks Luis.

Can you check the following location for the license on your hard drive?

    %appdata%\Cadence\VBL\TI_PSpice_231\license

It's not clear to me why the program is looking for the license on the server.

    David

  • Thanks for the follow up David. I just checked that location on my hard drive and found the license.

I ended up following the environment variable instruction you pasted above, and re-installed the tools on my machine in Admin mode.

The SW now opens and runs, and I can edit the schematic/netlist without error as well.

    Thanks for the support!

  • Thanks Lius. Glad it's working now.

Make sure you remove that environment variable. Otherwise the file will grow, and grow and grow....

    David

  • Yes, absolutely. Appreciate the reminder.
