TIDA-01487: Bus arbitration logic IC

Part Number: TIDA-01487

Tool/software:

Hi team,

my customer wants to develop kind of a CAN bus redriver to extend the maximum cable length of this bus by maintaining the communication speed.

During my research I saw the TIDA-01487 with a bus arbitration logic. Can you please help me to understand how this works, because I thought that we need a MCU in between two CAN bus transceivers to send the messages to the according interface.

Do we also have a designated IC to replace the discrete solution of the arbitration logic?

Best regards

Felix

  • Hi Felix,

    Thank you for your question.

There are two options to handle the arbitration logic, one is a arbitration logic with fixed time delay elements, or using an MCU to handle the bus arbitration timing. Our team did only look into the arbitration logic with fixed time delay elements, which is documented in the TIDA-01487 design guide.

There is no dedicated IC from TI available, at least to my knowledge. However, there is the option to integrate the arbitration logic into an TI TPLD device, e.g. TPLD1201. I will share with you some further information via email.

Regarding the function of the arbitration logic, please go carefully through Section 2.4.3 CAN Bus Arbitration Logic of the TI design guide, which does explain the function in detail.

    I hope this helps,

     Regards,

     Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

thank you for the additional information.

    This helps me a lot.

    Best regards
