TIDA-01621: TIDA-01621 - High Output MOSFET Temperature

Part Number: TIDA-01621
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV110

Tool/software:

Below is the schematic. The circuit function well and able to turn on a 24Vdc solenoid. But the MOSFET (Q23 in the schematic) temperature rises to 130degC. I don't think this is normal since the hold current is 290mA. The only change from the reference design is the MOSFET. SI7414DN has been discontinued and the suggested replacement from supplier is SIS4634LDN which is being used.

Brake voltage and current

  • Hello,

Thank you for your interest in the TIDA-01621 reference design.

The MOSFETs are not from Texas Instruments and I cannot comment on their performance.

The 24V brake voltage (yellow) you show on the scope plot should go in PWM mode, when the brake current is reduced. Please refer to the
design guide chapter 3.2.1.1 Operation of DRV110.

Could you follow that chapter and test your design the same way?

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Martin Staebler

  • Could you please indicate the measurement point and the reference point of the brake voltage referring to design guide chapter 3.2.1.1.

I actually disconnect the output of DRV110 to the MOSFET and use a function generator to drive the MOSFET gate at PWM 50% 20kHz and the MOSFET temperature is below 35degC. The MOSFET heating only occurs when driven by DRV110. Any suggestions on further verifications of the DRV110 operations. I hope to correlate the brake voltage measurement with the design guide.
