TIDA-01606: The reason of DESAT Use or No-use

Part Number: TIDA-01606

Tool/software:

Hi,

On TIDA-01606 reference design, the driver on the 1200V-rated side has DESAT and the driver on the 650V-rated side has no DESAT. Could you tell us the reason of DESAT's use/no-use as this design concept?  Please advise us.

Thanks and best regards,
M.HATTORI

  • Hi Hattori-san,

The reason is because the middle branch is already covered by the hall sensors for OCP.  The 1200V is still at risk for shoot through and bypassing the current sensors.

If you use gate driver with desat for the 650V it would add cost and the protection is redundant.  Hope that makes sense.

Try to draw out the various short circuit scenarios to see for yourself that this is the case (line to line short, shoot through etc.).
