TIDA-010054: Modulation Scheme

Part Number: TIDA-010054

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

My customer is asking about our TIDA-010054 reference design modulation scheme that we implement for the Dual Active Bridge control. Is it using triangular modulation or trapezoidal modulation or combined?

Thanks!

BR,

Alfred

  • Hi Alfred,

We use phase shift modulation, which will lead to a trapezoidal current waveform in the lead inductor.
We have implemented Single phase shift modulation and extended phase shift modulation. There are details in the design guide.

    Best regards,

    Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

Thanks for the feedback! I got a follow-up question from customer on this:

Is there a separate design document or appnote for DAB or only section 2.3 in the design guide is the available DAB design document.?

In the design guide document, it mentioned a MATLAB script for calculating deltaQ for calculating the Cout of the converter, can we share this with customer?

    Thanks!

    BR,

    Alfred

  • Hi Andreas,

Any update on this? Also, got an additional question from our team if there is any study we have done for trapezoidal and triangular modulation?

    Thanks!

    BR,

    Alfred

  • Hi Alfred,

Sorry for delayed response. From our side there is no additional documents.
I recommend using the simulation deck we provide to explore different modulation schemes.
We did not do a comparison between phase shift modulation and peak current modulation.

I do not have the MATLAB script mentioned available since this was calculated for the first revision of the board from a previous team.
This section is not 100% up to date, since we updated to Film capacitors in the latest revision already. I will update this soon.
Again a highly recommend using the simulation deck we provide to estimate the needed output capacitance.

    Best regards,

    Andreas
