AFE7950EVM: AFE7950EVM+TSW14J57revE

Part Number: AFE7950EVM

Tool/software:

Hi

I Have the AFE7950EVM+TSW14J57revE.

I have Latte tool to configure the AFE board and HDSC Pro tool to configure TSW board. I have two question:

1. I want to understand why using HDSC Pro tool/AFE RX side and click on capture very often lost sync between AFE and TSW. This problem is a SW tool problem or is it a SOC problem and will be present in my system without the TSW board?

2. NCO update can be done in real time during usually execution or must be a complete reconfiguration? How many time the SOC takes to change NCO value?

Thanks

  • Hi Paolo,

The reason you are seeing this issue is because of the firmware on the TSW14J57. In this firmware whenever you send or capture data the JESD link is re-initialized causing the link to go down briefly. This issue is will not be seen in your system and is only seen when using the TSW14J57, which is now obsolete.

The NCO can be updated one of two ways:

    1. Update the current NCO frequency. This will consist of executing around 8 SPI writes, therefore the amount of time taken will be dependent on your SPI frequency.
    2. Switch NCOs. The ADC and DAC channels can have up to 16 NCOs, when in single DDC/DUC mode, that can be switched between using either GPIO pins or SPI writes. This will be the fastest NCO update assuming you have already programmed the other NCOs to the required frequency beforehand.

For additional information on the 16 NCOs configuration please reference the 'AFE79xx_16_RX_NCOs' document in the AFE79xx secure folder, within the Application Notes section.
