LM5118: LM5118

Part Number: LM5118

Tool/software:

Dear TI team,

I need to understand the ifference between AGND and PGND pin of the IC LM5118. Are these Ground saperated from IC inside??? Can I use one i.e. AGND as analog GND of controller and PGND as digital GND of controller??

  • Hi CS,

Thank you for using E2E forum.

Please follow the recommendations from LM5118 datasheet section 10. Layout and also the app note on Layout optimisation of 4 -Switch Buck-Boost Converters  section 2.6 Separate AGND and PGND

The reason why we recommend two separate ground pours is to have

    • AGND: a quiet ground reference for control signals (analog ground)
    • PGND: a noisy ground reference for power signals (power ground)

Though the DC ground potential is the same, measure must be taken to separate these AGND and PGND planes to make sure noise arising from digital or high-power signals is not conducted between them to interfere with analog signals. It is also important to make sure AGND and PGND are on the same potential and ultimately should be connected together at one point.

    Best regards,

    Mounika
