TIDA-010272: communication transient protection

Part Number: TIDA-010272

Tool/software:

Hi,

There are two reference designs with slightly different transient protection.

The TIDA-010272 reference design uses a TVS diode (TSD05CDYFR) between the COM lines, and a bidirectional ESD diode to ground from the internal COM lines.

The BMS060A_BQ79731 reference design does not use the TVS diode between the COM lines and uses standard CAN ESD diode on the internal COM lines.

Customer is proposing that the ESD diode protection to be near the external COM lines connector pins as in the last snippet.

With TI’s experience of this type of communications, which of these topologies would you recommend? Can you help understand why?

If there are any other changes you would recommend they would be good to know.
