PMP22650: GaN Based Solution with Planar Magnetic

Part Number: PMP22650
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP21582,

Tool/software:

Hello E2E Experts,

Good day.

We are moving to a GaN-based design with Planar magnetics to achieve a more compact solution. Could you suggest any suitable and compact reference designs or components that align with this approach and our previously mentioned requirements?

Power Supply Requirements

  • Input Voltage: 100V – 260V AC

  • Output Voltage: 35V DC

  • Output Power: 200W (flexible)

  • Efficiency: ~90% at 50–70% load

  • Isolation: Required

  • Protections: Input-side safety fuses, ESD, and shock protection

Transformer Design Parameters

  • Magnetizing Inductance (Lm): >200 µH, up to 1.2 mH

  • Turns Ratio (n): To be customized per circuit. We prefer a recommended circuit or module that supports both 110V and 240V AC input. Total cost of the complete circuit will be a consideration.

Switching and Resonance Characteristics

  • Resonant Frequency (fr): 100 kHz

  • Switching Frequency Range:

    • Maximum (fsmax): ~150 kHz

    • Minimum (fsmin): ~70 kHz

  • Resonant Inductance (Lr): 120 µH

Additional Requirements

  • Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS)

  • LLC Resonant Topology

  • Power Factor Correction (PFC)

  • Hi TI CSC,

PMP22650 is a higher voltage 400V, higher power 6kW reference design. This is nowhere near the specs of the customer. The closest solution I can see in our reference design portfolio is PMP21582 (however, it does not use automotive qualified devices). So I recommend the customer looks at this solution first  or as a start to their design. Note, it meets their efficiency requirements with the frequency range of the customer, while not needing GAN (as they mentioned they will be looking at cost).
