TIDA-010940: ADC isolation

Part Number: TIDA-010940
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC131M03,

Tool/software:

Hi expert,

Why TIDA-010940 used shunt resistor to sample the current but without any isolation? Shouldn't be shunt+opto or CT into the ADC? Or at least using the AMC131M03?

Joyce

  • Hello Joyce, i hope all is well

Because there is isolation between the MCU and the user interface (RS-485)

Isolation is required if metering more than 1 phase with shunt, but here the Digital GND is connected to the voltage of Phase 1. The idea being this can be a lower cost 1ph meter not requiring isolation between ADC and MCU.
