PMP41083: Charging two 4s batteries in series.

Part Number: PMP41083
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP, BQ34Z100, , BQ25756

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am currently designing a charging solution that was intended to be using USB PD to charge a 10s battery and the PMP 41083 was the exact perfect solution that we were looking for.

The plan was to use it directly with its associated BMS in a 10s battery system.

But since we are still in the development phase, my supervisor wants to keep the costs low and wants to use our old 4s batteries for the task- with the plan being to connect two 4s batteries for now in series to give an equivalent 8s battery which should suffice for now.

The batteries already use the BQ7791501 (alongside BQ34Z100) as its BMS, protection and gauging and the plan was to scale it up for the 10s in the coming future.

My question is:

Can we use the PMP41083 reference design, configure it as an 8s charger, and charge the two batteries (with their own separate BMS) in series or is there any hazard in this method?

Thank you.
