ADS1278EVM-PDK: Problems with GUI startup

Part Number: ADS1278EVM-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1278, ADS127L11

Tool/software:

Hi, I recently received the ADS1278EVM-PDK evaluation board and downloaded/installed the GUI application linked from the product page.

Whenever I attempt to launch the program, it stalls out and isn't able to open the program in any capacity. This behavior has happened both with the board connected and disconnected.
One item of note is that the user guide indicated that there would be accompanying device driver and Labview runtime installation prompts; neither of these appeared when I installed (and later
re-installed the GUI software). I was able to download the NI labview runtime separately, but have not found the device drivers on a separate webpage.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Best,

  • Hello Joseph,

Welcome to the TI E2E community.

You may have anti-virus software preventing the driver from installing correctly.  You can try to manually install the hardware driver by navigating to the following directory and launching the driverInstall.exe file:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\ADS1278 EVM\PHI Driver

Also, do not connect the EVM through a USB hub; directly connect it to one of the ports on your PC.

If you are still not able to get this to install, then you may want to try a different workstation.

Please let me know if the you are able to get the EVM working.

  • Hi Keith,

Thanks for your reply. It doesn’t seem my antivirus is blocking the driver install. I notice that my version of the EVM software is missing the batch file, driverInstall executable, and readme. I was able to run the DPInst64 executable, but this did not fix the issue. Is there another version of the software available I need to access?

  • Hi Joseph,

Maybe there is an installer issue with this specific EVM GUI.  The ADS127L11EVM uses the exact same drivers.  I suggest installing the ADS127L11 software package; if you do not get prompted to install the drivers, then manually install the driver package for the ADS127L11EVM.

  • Hi Keith,

Was able to download and install the drivers (which did automatically prompt to install this time). Neither EVM GUI launches, though; both get stuck in the starting splash screen and the application never launches. Could this possibly have something to do with the LabView Runtime? I was not prompted to install this from either EVM and have a version of LabView runtime downloaded directly from NI (version 2025 q1)

  • Hi Joseph,

Yes, the LabView runtime is the reason neither GUI launches.  I do not know why you are not able to install this on your machine.  We will take a look at this to see if there is something we need to update in the installer package.

The version of LabView runtime that you installed will not work with either EVM.  You need to install an older version, specifically:

    NI LabVIEW Run-Time engine 2012 f3

    Keith

  • Hi Keith,

Thanks for all your help! This solved the issue. While I still had trouble installing LabView Runtime from the installer, it is still available on NI’s website.
