Tool/software:

Hello,

I am also working on a Bi-directional DC-DC Converter for Battery Test Equipment.

I go through the design guide of  TIDA-010087. In that battery voltage, output current, and inductor current are sensed, but for the control algorithm, only output current and battery voltage are used to implement CC and CV. What is the use of inductor current sensing? Any particular reason?.  Please support in this. I am also interested.

In battery application, for charging and discharging, any control algorithm with battery voltage, output current, and an inductor current is there. Please suggest or refer to any design document. I will try to implement.

  • Hi Bhaskar,

Inductor current sense is not used in this design (not populated in the schematic). The benefits of sensing inductor current over the output current is that you can improve the close loop bandwidth, and power supply transient response.

About the CC and CV algorithm. Please see the block diagram. The current and voltage loop are cascaded. When battery voltage is far away from the set point, the voltage loop is saturated to the CC threshold (current limit), i.e. CC mode. Once battery voltage crosses the CV threshold, the CV mode gets active, and starts to reduce the battery current to regulate the output voltage.

You can find the example code in the C2000WARE-DIGITALPOWER-SDK

We have new products that are suitable for this application, and I would like to reach out to you over email. Is the email address that you have in myTI information a correct email to reach out?

  • Hello Shaury,

I have question regarding incorporating inductor current sensing. Is it feasible to incorporate PCMC strategy in this CCCV control algorithm ? If yes, how do you suggest tuning the control parameters? I can see from BOOSTXL-BUCKCONV reference design, we cannot estimate open loop response while using PCMC strategy instead direct tune the closed loop response.

There are 4 labs mentioned starting from Open loop duty tuning, closed loop current tuning, open loop voltage tuning and closed loop voltage tuning with coefficients extracted using compensator designer. If I use PCMC then how would be my tuning strategy then?
