Hi Felix it depends on the output voltage. For 5V you only need to clamp one of the legs. You populate the clamp circuit in red if you want but you have similar performance. The engineer probably added this if they decide to design with a 12V output. Then you would need clamp circuits on both gates. For 3.3V outputs, you won't see any clamp circuits on the gates.
