MSP430FR2000: MSP430FR2000

Part Number: MSP430FR2000

We are currently evaluating TI ICs for a high-volume application with a projected demand of 30 million units per year.

We have identified one specific parts in the TI portfolio that meet our technical requirements: [MSP430FR2000 ]. However, we need to confirm if these specific ICs are available in bare die / unsawn wafer format.

Could you please assist us with the following:

  1. Confirm the availability of the aforementioned ICs in bare die format.

  2. If these specific parts are not available as die, could you recommend alternative Microchip ICs that are offered in bare die format and meet the following specifications:

      • General Purpose I/O: At least four GPIOs.
      • Connectivity: No NFC, RF, or wireless communication interfaces are required.
      • Temperature Measurement: Integrated temperature sensor with accuracy better than ±5 °C, with particular focus on performance between -30 °C and +5 °C.
      • Time Keeping: An internal Real-Time Clock (RTC) is preferred. If not available, an alternative time-tracking method must achieve a maximum drift of less than 2 hours over a 14-day period.
      • Power Management: Support for deep sleep modes with extremely low power consumption. Ideally, GPIO states should be retained during deep sleep (e.g. both GPIOs held at logic LOW / GND).
      • Programmability: The firmware architecture must support state-based logic equivalent to the defined operational flowchart, including activation, measurement, sleep, and display update states.
      • Wide VDD operating range to support battery voltage variation (e.g. 3.3 V to ~1.0 V). The exact minimum voltage is flexible, but should be as low as reasonably achievable.

Given the scale of this project, we are looking to establish a long-term supply chain and would appreciate your guidance on the procurement process for this volume.

  • Hi Diogo,

I would have to check on the bare die, but I do think we can do this. If the FR2000 cannot be secured as bare die, the following parts are explicitly cataloged for bare die sales and meet your specifications:

    • MSP430G2252-DIE:
      • Low Voltage: Operates down to 1.8 V, supporting standard battery variations.\
      • Power: Ultra-low-power (ULP) with sub-1uA standby and full GPIO state retention.
      • Temp Sensor: Internal sensor available; however, for +/-5°C accuracy, TI factory calibration is typically required at 30°C. For the -30°C to +5°C range, you can achieve your target by using the internal ADC with a two-point software calibration.
    • MSP430F5326-DIE
      • RTC: Features a dedicated hardware Real-Time Clock (RTC) for precise timekeeping with minimal drift.
      • Retention: Deep sleep modes (LPM3/LPM4) maintain GPIO states as required.

As far as requirements, here are a few details based on your requirements:

    • Time Keeping: The MSP430's low-power internal oscillators (VLO) typically drift ~0.5% over temperature. Over 14 days (336 hours), this is roughly 1.6 hours of drift, meeting your <2-hour requirement without an external crystal.
    • Deep Sleep: All MSP430 variants retain GPIO states in LPM3/LPM4. You can programmatically hold pins at logic LOW before entering sleep.
    • Voltage Range: While 1.0 V is below the standard minimum of 1.8 V for full flash/FRAM operation, these devices are designed for extreme battery longevity in sensing applications.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi Brian,

    Thank you for your message.

Have you had the chance to confirm the provided part number for the Die version? Also, how can I get a quote for the three PNs we are discussing?

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you and kind regards

  • Hi Diogo, i would recommend taking this offline and reaching out to our marketing team for further assistance on this.
