ADC34RF72EVM: ADC34RF72EVM: Request for .ini files for HSDC software

Part Number: ADC34RF72EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC34RF72, LMK04828

Hi TI team,

I am currently testing the ADC34RF72 evaluation board with the TSW14J58 capture board, but I was unable to locate the .ini files for different JESD configurations for the ADC34RF72 in the HSDC software.

I did notice that there are several .ini files available for ADC3xRF5x devices. Are these compatible with ADC34RF72, or is there a specific set of .ini files I should be using?

Could you please advise or share the appropriate files?

Thanks.

Best regards,

Xuan

  • Hi Xuan,

The ADC34RF72 does not use INI files with HSDC Pro to support data capture. All FPGA control is handled directly in the ADC's device GUI. More details about programming the ADC and capturing data can be seen in the EVM's user guide.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Eric,

Thanks for your suggestion — I followed the guide and was able to get the default configuration working (sampling rate = 1.5 GSPS).

However, I’m having trouble changing the sampling rate in the GUI. Specifically:

    • There does not appear to be a drop-down menu in the Quick Select tab. (image attached)
    • When I manually change the sampling rate (e.g., from 1.5 GSPS to 1.25 GSPS) and press Enter, it immediately reverts back to 1.5 GSPS.

I’m wondering if I might be missing a required step or configuration before modifying the sampling rate.

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Xuan,

Can you click the advanced mode checkbox, I will check why the sampling rate entry doesnt seem to work.

The Quick select tab populates off saved config files, my guess is none have been saved hence no files show up.

    Thanks,

    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

Thanks for the clarification. I have tried enabling the Advanced Mode, but I’m still unable to change the sampling rate. It continues to revert back to 1.5 GSPS after I enter a new value.

Regarding the Quick Select tab, that makes sense. Could you please provide some guidance on how to import or load those configuration files? Also, where can I download the recommended config files for this EVM? Or shall I uninstall and reinstall the whole GUI?

Thanks again for your help — I really appreciate it.

  • Hi Xuan,

Can you share more screenshots of the behavior you are seeing? I tried the GUI out and was not able to replicate the issue.

Can you also try typing 1.1G or 1.3e9 or 1400M? It is programmed so you can use scientific notation or the letters.

    Thanks,

    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

Thanks for the information. I tried entering the sampling rate in scientific notation (e.g., 1.25e9), and that worked. However, when I directly type 1250000000  or 1.25G, it does not work.

That said, I still don’t see any configuration options in the drop-down menu under the Quick Select tab. I’ve attached a short video for reference.

    Thanks again for your support!

  • Hi Xuan,

ok I will take a look at why typing in the exact number does not work, typing 1.25G does work for me.

For the quick select modes, I am planning to add some in future releases, for now you can enable advanced mode and configure the device how you like, if you share some details about what you want to try i can help show you how to configure it. Also after you configure you can then export the system paramters files and save them in this directory ~\Documents\Texas Instruments\ADC3xRF7xEVM\v1.0.1\_internal\adc3xrf7xevm\ADC3xRF7x_API\default_configs\quad_1p5g and on subsequent launches of the GUI you can select the configuration from the drop down list.

    Thanks,

    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

Thanks for the detailed instructions! I really appreciate your help.

I also wanted to share a quick observation from our evaluation and get your input:

Following the test conditions in the user guide (Section 5.7,  1.5 GSPS sampling rate, 100 MHz input), I measured an SNR of ~66.5 dBFS, compared to ~75.3 dBFS in the datasheet.

I understand that the sampling clock quality is a key factor influencing this result. For our current setup, we are using the output (1.5 GHz) from the LMK04828 EVM as both the sampling clock and the reference clock.

Could you please provide some additional guidance on the clocking setup?

    • Do you have recommended clock design strategies or reference implementations? The datasheet mentions using a low-noise signal generator (e.g., R&S SMA100A) along with a band-pass filter — are there any specific filter specifications or part numbers you would recommend to reproduce datasheet-level performance?
    • For the sampling clock, is a low-noise single tone sinusoidal waveform preferred, or a high slew-rate square wave?
    • How do higher-order harmonics from a square-wave clock affect ADC SNR performance?

Thanks again for your support — this has been very helpful.

    Best regards,

    Xuan
