TMDSEMU200-U: Unable to detect in Device Manager

Part Number: TMDSEMU200-U

CUSTOMER ISSUE :

P/n: TMDSEMU200-U

"When we connected the Debugger first time to the Host PC, the power LED
on the debugger does not turn on and the device is also not detected in
the PC Device Manager under USB devices."

  • Hello Venu,

Thank you for reporting this issue with your TMDSEMU200-U debugger. When the power LED does not turn on and the device is not detected in Device Manager, this typically indicates a power delivery or connection issue. Please work through the following troubleshooting steps:

    USB Connection and Cable:

    • Verify you are using a high-quality USB cable, preferably the cable that came with the debugger
    • Test with a different USB cable if available, as faulty cables are a common cause of this issue
    • Connect the debugger directly to a USB port on your PC (avoid USB hubs initially)
    • Try different USB ports on your host PC, preferably USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 ports

    Power Supply:

    • The TMDSEMU200-U is USB-powered and requires sufficient power from the host PC
    • If using a laptop, ensure it is connected to AC power, not running on battery only
    • If your PC USB ports have power limitations, try connecting through a powered USB hub

    Driver Installation:

    • Download and install the latest XDS emulation drivers from the TI Emulation and Debug Tools page
    • Alternatively, install drivers through Code Composer Studio: Help > Install New Software > TI Emulators
    • Ensure the drivers are compatible with your Windows version

    Device Manager Verification:

    • Open Device Manager and check for any "Unknown Device" entries or devices with yellow exclamation marks
    • If found, right-click the device and select "Update Driver", then browse to the XDS driver installation location

    Hardware Inspection:

    • Physically inspect the debugger for any visible damage
    • Check the USB connector for bent pins or debris
    • The absence of the power LED suggests either a cable issue, insufficient USB power, or potential hardware failure

    Isolation Testing:

    • Test the debugger on a different computer to determine if the issue is PC-specific or related to the debugger hardware

Please attempt these troubleshooting steps and report back with your findings. Specifically, let me know:

    • Whether the power LED ever illuminates during testing
    • Results from testing with a different USB cable
    • Your host PC operating system version
    • Whether you have Code Composer Studio installed, and if so, which version

If the debugger still does not power on or get detected after these steps, we may need to evaluate a hardware failure and discuss replacement options.

    Best Regards,
    Zackary Fleenor

  • Please refer to the below customer response:

I followed all the suggested troubleshooting steps, but the TMDSEMU200-U debugger is still not working.

    • The power LED does not turn ON at any point
    • Tried with multiple USB cables (including a known good one)
    • Tested on different USB ports and a different PC — still not detected
    • No device (even unknown device) appears in Device Manager
    • Verified power conditions (AC-powered laptop) and also tried via powered USB hub

Based on these checks, it appears the debugger is not receiving power at all, and the issue is likely hardware-related.

Please advise on the next steps for hardware evaluation or replacement.

    Regards,

    Venu CK.

  • Hello Venu,

Thank you for thoroughly working through all of the troubleshooting steps and providing detailed results. Based on your findings, I agree that this appears to be a hardware failure with the TMDSEMU200-U unit. The fact that the power LED does not illuminate under any condition, across multiple cables, multiple USB ports, and multiple host PCs, with no device entry appearing in Device Manager at all, confirms that the unit is not receiving or responding to power, which points to an internal hardware defect.

To proceed with a hardware evaluation and potential replacement, please follow the steps below:

    1. Confirm your purchase details including the date of purchase, the distributor or vendor you purchased from, and your proof of purchase or order number.

    2. Visit the TI Support portal and submit an official hardware return or replacement request. You can reach TI's support team directly at https://support.ti.com to open a formal case for a defective unit evaluation.

    3. If the unit is within the warranty period, TI will evaluate the device and determine eligibility for a replacement. If purchased through a distributor such as Digi-Key, Mouser, or Arrow, you may also contact them directly to initiate a return or exchange under their respective return policies.

Please provide your purchase details here as well so I can assist in escalating this further on my end if needed. I want to ensure this gets resolved for you as quickly as possible.

    Best Regards,

    Zackary Fleenor
