MSPM0-SDK: MSPM0G3105 with XDS110: Unable to load program

Part Number: MSPM0-SDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSPM0G3105, UNIFLASH, LP-MSPM0G3507

I am using CCS 20.5 and the XDS110 USB Debug Probe.

The design uses a MSPM0G3105.  The cpu is fresh from factory (it never been programmed with any code or configuration).

All the signals to the 10-pin debug connector are connected as indicated in the documentation:

Pin 1 = VTREF (connected to the board's 3.3V)

Pin 2 = SWDIO

Pin 4 = SWCLK

Pins 3, 5, 7, 9 = GND

Pin 10 = nRST

The .ccxml file is configured for SWD Mode and Target Supplied Power. I even reduced the frequency to 100 kHz.

In CCS, if I select Run/Debug Project, the session starts, but when it tries to load the program, it stalls at PT_LOAD[0]: 0 of 2344 at 0x0.

I tried "Start Project-less Debut", then Connect Target on the CORTEX_M0P thread. After that, I get the same result if I go through Run/Load Program.

I used the "Test Connections..." button in the advanced properties of the ccxml file and it says the SWD Mode Integrity test has succeeded.

I get the same results if I use UniFlash.

I verified my XDS110 USB probe is working properly with a LP-MSPM0G3507 Development Kit. It worked as expected and I was able to load and run a program in the CPU.

I need help with this issue (I tried multiple PCBs).

  • Hi Martin,

This indicates there might be an error in your hardware.

Could you help share the schematic of SWD interface and MCU connection for my reference?

  • Here is what I can share with you:

  • Hi Martin,

The hardware looks fine. Please help check:

    1. If CM 10-pin is connected with incorrect order

    2. Monitor if the NRST is always high during your connection

If you have TI Launchpad, you can try with Launchpad with XDS110 probe firstly.

  • 1. I double checked all connections to the 10-pin connector and made sure it is not connected the wrong way.

    2. I monitored (with an oscilloscope) the nRST signal and can confirm it is held high. I also confirmed that the debug probe was able to control it by running the Factory Reset and saw the line being controlled.

    3. I also have a TI Launchpad LP-MSPM0G3507. I am able to successfully connect my XDS110 probe to that board, load code and run a debug session.

  • Hi Martin,

The another possible reason is the power source of your board is not sufficient for LOAD behavior (as it will erase the MCU flash).

I suggest you connect the power output from XDS110 probe to your board and try to download the firmware.

You can enable the power output in ccxml file by selecting powered by the probe.
