Webench and TPS53316 errors

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53316

I’m seeing a disagreement between the datasheet and the webench output which is making me question the whole thing?

I want to use the TPS53316 for a 5V to 3.3V 4.5amp conversion.  Webench is showing Vout programming resistors of RFB1 5.36K and RFB2 of 24.0K.  The datasheet formula would be RFB2 of 1.19K using the same RFB1 as webbench.

Looks like the resisitors are swapped - if R2 is 5.36K then R1 would be 24K but this violates the notes in the datasheet stating R1 should be between 1and 10K. I can share the design if you give me your email address.

If it's a simple swap does this eefect any of the other calculations for this design in webench and does this effect other parts in webench?

  • Calum,

I have looked into the issue with the programming resistor values and am currently fixing this in WEBENCH.  Most of the calculations for the design would remain the same if the feedback resistors are changed, however, the compensation components would need to be recalculated and the crossover frequency and phase margin would change.

Getting this fix out onto WEBENCH will take a couple of days.  I will let you know when this update has been released to WEBENCH.

But in the mean time, if you would like, I can send you an updated BOM using the TPS53316 with the correct programming resistors and the updated compensation components.

This issue does not affect other parts in WEBENCH.

Let me know if you have any other comments, questions, or concerns.

  • Thanks - Please send me an updated BOM and components and I can get that over to my customer. Will you email me when the fix is incorporated?

    Cheers
    Calum

  • Hey Jonathan,

I know it's not been long but any update on the fix yet? - I am going to see the engineer this morning and was just wondering if there was an update or maybe the updated BOM?

    Cheers

  • Callum,

Sorry for the delay.  See below for an updated BOM and schematic.  I'm close to releasing the updates for the TPS53316 to WEBENCH.  It should be up within a day or two.  I will let you know when it has been released.  Let me know if you need anything else.

  • Hi Calum,

I have finished updating the tool so that the TPS53316 calculations are correct in WEBENCH.  I'm expecting this update to show up in WEBENCH for you to use within the next day or so.  I will confirm with you once it is readily available for use.

In the meantime, I was able to get a report put together from WEBENCH with an updated BOM and schematic and all calculations (Crossover Frequency, Phase Margin, efficiency, pricing, footprint, etc.) for you to view.  Hopefully this helps you as you work on your design.

If you need anything else or have any other questions, please let me know.
