SWITCHERPRO

Guru 13485 points

I got the below question:

I am about to get a new computer

I want to move all the Switcher Pro files to the new computer

I can’t find the files

Can you please verify for me where they are located and how do I copy them to my new computer

  •  Hello Eli,

A colleague of mine gave this solution to you:

    1. Download and Install SwitcherPro Desktop on the new machine. Once SwitcherPro is installed you need to copy the design store from your old machine
    2. Design Store: SwitcherPro Desktop application saves user designs in a file (SwitcherProDB.vdb3) in the same folder where the application is installed.
[By default the folder location is “C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\SwitcherPro Desktop” (on XP) and C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SwitcherPro Desktop” on (Win 7 64 bit).]
    3. Copy the design store file from the old machine to the new machine. The new machine will already have this file since it comes with the installation. You will be overwriting this file on the new machine.
    4. Launch SwitcherPro Desktop on the new machine and you should be able to see your designs.

Please let us know how it goes.

Enjoy SwitcherPro on your new computer.

    Regards,

  • Is there a way for SwitcherPro to save each project in its own design file? I am designing for a customer and want to send him just his specific project simulation instead of the "SwitcherProDB.vdb3" which contains all of the projects I have done for other customers.

    Thanks,

    Leo

  • Please confirm that the designs really are stored in

       C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SwitcherPro Desktop\SwitcherProDB.vdb3

I have tried renaming and relocating the file and SwitcherPro starts with my designs listed every time.  The file creation date still shows 10/28/2011 even after the changes.  I would like some way to backup and/or move the designs.

  • Follow on:  I created a new design and the size of the SwitcherProDB.vdb3 file did not change.  Where is my design being stored?

    Thank you in advance,

    Andrew

  • Hi Andrew,

SwitcherProDB.vdb3 file under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SwitcherPro Desktop" is were SwitcherPro stores user designs. If you are using windows 7, you will need to run switcherPro as administrator so that the tool can save the designs in this file. Please follow the instrunctions below to run SwitcherPro as administrator.

    1) Go to the switcherPro executable file from start-> All Programs-> Texas Instruments - > SwitcherPro Desktop -> SwitcherPro Desktop
    2) Right click -> Properties -> Compatibility
    3) Check mark the option “Run this program as administrator”
    4) Run SwitcherPro .

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi Andrew,

Below is the explanation of where SwitcherPro desktop save designs on windows 7.

    1)  If you run SwitcherPro as administrator, your designs will be stored under “C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SwitcherPro Desktop” -> SwitcherProDB.vdb3.

    2)  If you are NOT running SwitcherPro as administrator then the designs will be stored under the user local app data folder. Path: “C:\Users\[User info]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SwitcherPro Desktop”->SwitcherProDB.vdb3

Where, [User Info] is the name representing current user login.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Thank you Abhishek.  It is good to have this closed and cleared up.
