Switcher Pro Questions (TPS40055)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS40055

I am trying to simulate a design with the TPS40055 with Switcher Pro, and I have some questions about the software.

It looks like I cannot change the value of the resistor connected to pin RT. Is that true?

In the stress table there are 3 passive parts and the FETs, but the IC (TPS40055) is not there. Can I find it somewhere?

A minor point: When I export the stress table to Excel or Word I am getting text files, starting with "+ADw". Neither Excel nor Word seems to recognize them.

Thanks.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your interest in our application.

Currently, the application does not have the interface to let the user change the RT resistor. The only way to change RT resistor is by entering desired switching frequency while designing with 'Advanced Options'.

We are currently working on a feature called 'Design Options' where user will be able to change Vin, Vout, Iout, switching frequency etc. for an existing design. Hopefully, that feature will be useful for your needs. We have future plans to add interface to let the user change resistor values, such as RT, output voltage divider, etc.

Regarding the missing IC in the stress table, since this device is a controller with external FETs, the loss for IC is very minimal. So, we do not show that loss, but only the loss in the FET. For ICs which are converter with internal MosFETs, they show up in the stress page.

The functionality to export to Excel and Word is not working. We are working on fixing that.

    Thank you.

  • Thanks for the hint how to change RT, it worked.

About the stress on the IC, I do not fully agree. In our circuit the TPS40055 is the hottest part, actually that was the reason to start the simulation. There is also a chapter about it in the datasheet.
If you already calculate the IC dissipation and it is just a matter of displaying it, maybe just turn it on.

    Today I got error messages:

    System Exception:
There was an error processing your transaction.
Please close your web browser, open a new browser window, and try again.
SwitcherPro support has been notified of this error.

It occurred when I tried to use FETs in parallel, as we have in our circuit.
If you need additional information, I can send you the circuit running into the error.

  • Can you please let me know the DesignID?

  •

    Design ID:  35985

    I admit that it says:
The following are the recommended number of FETs for this position.
Maximum qty recommended to keep from exceeding gate charge spec = 1
