What should I do with the Open component?

Eric: (9/3/2008 8:31:00 PM)
As above. I dont understand why are there so many Open components in my design. Am I suppose to choose each and every one of the component manually? Also, I found that there is no criteria guideline as in what is the minimum condition a component must meet to fulfill the design. There are cases when I chose a component and then it was rejected due to some incompatibility.

Please advise. Thanks.

Regards,
Eric

  Eric,
Good Question,  If a component is left open in a design, it's considered optional.  For example we usually have a bulk input capacitor that is left open on the schematic (typically "C1").  If you review you analysis page and decide you need less input ripple you can add more capacitance on the input with this open socket. It's similar for the output caps. We leave spots open to add additional caps if you decide you want a more robust design and cost or size is not as important.
