Switcherpro, TPS5450 unable to create design

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS5450

I am trying to evaluate efficiency for a customer using the TPS5450 with following inputs.

Vin 20.4V, Vout 16V, Iout 2.5A.

Switcherpro indicates that it cannot find suitable capacitor.   I have tried advanced settings and changed cap types, and still no luck.

> Error Occurred:

>Calculated Specs for Cap are:  Value = 820uF, Qty = 1, ESR = 151mΩ
>Type = CapPolymerAluminum,Voltage >= 20V,Current Rating >= 20A

I need to estimate effieciency under these conditions.  Any ideas on how do to this?

I received the same results with both the online, and the desktop version.

Thanks,

Wade

  • The TPS5450 is internally compensated.  It is designed to work with low ESR electrolytic caps such as Sanyo Poscaps.  In general, these capacitors are not available in higher  voltage ratings, you will need to use a ceramic or aluminum electrolytic for that output voltage and use some external compensation components around the voltage divider network.  Switcherpro does not currently support that type of design.  there is an application note in the product folder that details this procedure.
