SwitcherPro Online vs Desktop

Hello, I have tried the same design in the SwitcherPro online and the desktop version and the values and components are different. Why is that?

Thank you,

David

  • Hello David.

This is a great question.  Actually there are two main reasons why you might get different designs from the web and desktop versions of the tool.

The first reason is the version of the tool. Note, that designs created in either platform of the tool were products of a specific version of the design engine.  So if I built a design in one version 3 weeks ago on my desktop and did the same design today on the web, there is a good chance that the design engine will produce different results.  We spend ever release cycle updating the engine with better algorithms.  We are also adding parts to our list of devices every release. If the design engine finds a more suitable component, it will try and use it. Web version is always latest and up-to-date.

The second reason (and less likely to affect you) is that you now have the ability to add your own passive components.  If you are adding your own inductors, caps, diodes etc. then the software will use those as well.  The parts you add in the desktop version are not synced up to the web version so there could be a difference in the component library.

If you are using the same versions of web and DT, and did the design same way and still got different results, please let us know your inputs for the design and the steps you took and we will look into it.

    I hope this helps.
