Validation of SPICE models

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Hey TI community,

How does one validate a SPICE model from a manufacturer or third party? My simulations of the AD620 and other instrumentation amplifiers in TINA and LT SPICE have resulted in gains suspiciously far from the manufacturer's datasheet.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

  • Zec,

First thing I would do is to make sure you are using the same condition as specified in the manufacturer datasheet to simulate your circuit. If that is the same then there is a good possibility that the discrepancy is coming from the model itself and how it is modeled especially if it gives the same result in multiple simulators. A model is just an abstraction of actual behavior and has assumptions and tradeoffs made during development. If the assumptions and tradeoffs are not made correctly, the results can be incorrect.

Alternately, TI has several OpAmp with models. You can find all TI models using the link below. Make sure to change the category in the drop down from "Power Management" (default) to "Amplifiers & Linear". After this, you can use the search box to further filter for only TINA-TI.

    Best regards,
