Simulation Time Control

Hi team,

Quick question,

How does one change the time duration for simulations using WEBENCH?

Thank you,

Mauricio Solis

  • By default, there is no capability for a user to change the time duration for a simulation.  However, it is possible to do this in the WEBENCH® Schematic Editor.

    Here are the steps:

From the design summary page, click Edit:

Confirm in the pop-up to create a new custom editable design:

The WEBENCH Schematic Editor allows you to make schematic edits to the design.  We will bypass this and go directly to simulation.  Click on the Sim button:

The WEBENCH Schematic Editor provides a custom Startup simulation in which the user can customize the parameters.  Click on the Parameters tab.

Double click on the tstop parameter and modify the value.

Click Start New Sim to run the custom Startup simulation.

  • Hi, I've tried doing this but I need to simulate for about 50ms (as it takes the circuit this long to reach a steady state/voltage) and it seems to time-out - I get an error:
    "Simulation Type : Startup
    Simulation Time is = 07:56
ERROR DURING THIS SIMULATION. SIMULATION TIME LIMIT WAS EXCEEDED.
    THIS SIMULATION MAY HAVE FAILED.
This simulation may have been terminated before the time limit was reached.
    PLEASE CHECK THE SIMULATION STATUS."

I presume this is to do with the 'all simulations take less than 8 minutes'?
It also looks like the sim has hung and not been cleanly terminated - it still shows as "Running", and I can't edit parameters without closing the browser and starting again.
  • Hi Colin,

The time limit for simulations on the UI is 8 minutes.  However, even if the UI says that the time limit has been exceeded, the simulation is still allowed to run for a few more minutes before it is killed.  If you close your browser and check the sim results list after a few minutes, your sim may have completed and you can view the waveforms.  I will talk to the development team to see if the messaging can be improved.  In the meantime, would you check your sim results and let me know if your sim completed?

  • Hi Khang.

No, the result shows as 'Fail'

  • Hi Colin,

I would be happy to investigate your specific simulation to see what happened.  Would you send me the email address you use to login to your account and the DesignId of your design?  Send it directly to khang.nguyen@ti.com.

    Thanks,

    Khang
