Failure installing Webench with Altium 16

On Altium 16 I'm trying to install the Webench plug-in using the instructions from http://www.ti.com/lit/ml/snvu481/snvu481.pdf. It starts installing and fails at 2.7 to 3.3 MB out of 41 MB of the install. I can't see anywhere to download the file manually. There is no error message. It just stops. Also, clicking on the WEBENCH link and clicking install from that screen also fails without any error.

Any ideas on how to get the extension to install? Is the Webench extension only compatible with Altium 14? Is there somewhere I can see error logs that reference the installation?

Thanks,

Mike

  • Mike,

The extension works fine with Altium 16. I could install it without any issue.

You can check following folder (you may have a different folder name after Altium Designer) in your PC for extension installation.

    C:\ProgramData\Altium\Altium Designer {D018A03D-05AC-45F0-AC19-588618EE29AF}\Extensions\WEBENCH\

If you have an incomplete installation, please delete the folder and try again.

Please make sure that you have admin privileges to download and install the extension in your PC.

  • Pradeep:

I found the directory you mentioned. I couldn't tell if the installation was incomplete or not, but I deleted it anyway, re-ran Altium, watched the directory get re-created, went to re-install, and saw the installation get up to 7.1 MB before stopping which was farther than I got yesterday. Since that didn't work, even though I'm an administrator on my computer, I closed Altium, deleted the directory again, right-clicked on the Altium icon and used "Run as Administrator", watched the directory get recreated again, tried installing, and saw the installation get up to 2.7 MB before stopping again.

Any other ideas of what I should look for in the \ProramData\Altium\Altium Designer {...}\ directories? Any other ideas?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • Mike,

Are you able to install any other extension? Can you try installing other extensions and see if you are facing the same issue. This will confirm whether the issue is with only this extension or all extensions.

Also is it possible for you to install WEBENCH extension from home. This will rule out the possibility of any network related restrictions at your work.

I am not able to reproduce the issue at my end and therefore i need your inputs for above queries in order to resolve the issue.

  • Pradeep:

I did not try installing Altium at home. I un-installed (sometimes just the software and other times the configuration also), and re-installed multiple times.

I was unable to get TI's Webench to install until today when I started Altium and a new update to 16.1.8 was made available. After restarting Altium after the update I clicked on Webench and the installer worked! I'm not sure if it was the Altium update or possibly a newer Webench. (The size reported of the Webench download was larger than what I had seen previously.)

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • Mike,

Glad to know that to know that finally you are able to install WEBENCH extension in AD 16. We have released newer version of WEBENCH recently and yes it has larger download size.
