LM5017 Maximum switching frequency calculation

Hi,

Could you let me know conditions for calculating maximum switching frequency at WEBENCH, please?

From datasheet, I calculated possible maximum switching frequency by equation 10 and 11.
Use case is Vin=20V~100V, Vout=12V, Iout=0.3A.
I think that LM5017 can operate at 1MHz.

But WEBENCH suggested that maximum switching frequency is 450kHz.

Is there condition excepting equation 10 and 11 to decide maximum switching frequency in WEBENCH?
-> Is it Heat?

  • Hi Shimizu-san,

    WEBENCH is limiting the maximum possible frequency for this design because it is performing a thermal check on the max temperature the FET can safely operate at. To operate at 1MHz, you may need to reduce the max input voltage or the max output current for the design.
